New Book Review section

There is a new section the this site now, the Book Reviews. I’m definitely reading lots more on this trip than usual…this is great.

Got to do some packing: I’m off to catch my train in a few minutes. The train down to Bangkok is 562 Baht for an overnight sleeper car with no aircon. That's about US$13. Just like last time, some refreshments were in order.

75cl bottle of Khao Yai wine: 445 Baht
Goodwill Parmesan cheese: 261 Baht
Roussel D'Auvergne blue cheese: 255
Butter: 26 Baht
1L Aevian water: 59 Baht
Party cups: 22 Baht
Wine opener: 45 Baht
Bread: 15 Baht
2 Bluto red apples: 270 Baht (!)

All told, my food and drink cost 2.5 times the train ticket. Somehow this all made sense at the time but now seems silly.

Stu:

Let me know when you figure it out. Or figure out where the finish line is. Or what direction it is in.

I try to think of life as a journey, and as one of our Venician friends used to say..."Enjoy the journey". In other words, the destination is not the goal.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm enjoying the journey to the fullest extent possible for me. Sure, I'm probably enjoying it better than recent quake victims in Pakistan, but that is not a really fair comparison. So what is a fair comparison? Whom or what should we compare ourselves to in order to evaluate how we're doing on our journey? Will we ever know?

I don't know.

But I sure am having fun reading your blog. Want to go to the Grand Canyon with John Brauer and John Rapheling and I this Spring? Or perhaps meet me in NZ in Feb?
